State Routes 12 and 14 from Clarkston to the Pacific Ocean

The Lewis and Clark Trail Scenic Byway in Washington follows the path of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark’s famous Corps of Discovery expedition as it moved west along the Snake and Columbia rivers. The route traces much of Washington’s southern border with Oregon and connects Clarkston along the Idaho border to the Pacific Coast. Along the way, the byway passes through river-carved canyons, vineyard-rich valleys, and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Visitors can learn about Native American history and culture and visit historic forts, museums, and interpretive centers. Stop in charming towns for wine tasting and local cuisine, or explore the byway’s varied landscapes while hiking, kayaking, fishing, and more.

Time Your Trip: This scenic byway is typically accessible year-round. Spring and fall are great for mild weather, colorful landscapes, and local events.
