explore the Okanogan Trails Scenic Byway

Highway 97 between Pateros and the Canadian border

The Okanogan Trails Scenic Byway winds through the heart of North Central Washington, providing a mix of history, small-town charm, wide-open landscapes, and outdoor recreation. Part of the route traces the western edge of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. Visit historic buildings, museums, and ghost towns, spend time on lakes and the Okanogan River, or explore public lands. This quieter stretch of Washington is perfect for slow travel, with opportunities to stop in local communities and experience seasonal events. Phone service can be limited in some areas, so plan to download offline maps in advance.

Time Your Trip: The byway is accessible year-round. Spring through fall offers the best conditions for outdoor recreation and wildlife viewing, while winter can bring snowy conditions.
