travel by ferry and car to two scenic islands
explore the San Juan Islands Scenic Byway
A marine highway plus driving tours of San Juan and Orcas islands
The San Juan Islands Scenic Byway combines a scenic ferry ride along 30 miles of marine highway with 85 miles of winding drives through two picturesque islands. Depart from Anacortes and cross the sparkling waters of the Salish Sea to San Juan Island. Road trip to beaches, lighthouses, and charming harbor towns before taking another ferry to Orcas Island, home to artisan villages and Moran State Park. Wildlife, art, and waterfront views await around every corner along this unique Washington State scenic byway. This byway is also part of the larger Cascade Loop.
Time Your Trip: The ferry system operates year-round, with reduced frequency outside of the summer season. Reservations are highly recommended for vehicles (to and from the islands), and schedules are subject to seasonal changes, so it’s always best to check Washington State Ferries for the latest information.
