State Route 410 between Enumclaw and Naches

Designated as an All-American Road in 1998, the Chinook Scenic Byway winds for about 92 miles along State Route 410. Travel from Enumclaw through the northeast edge of Mount Rainier National Park and over Chinook Pass before descending into the farmland of the Naches Valley. Along the way, enjoy access to Mount Rainier, cascading waterfalls, and endless outdoor recreation, from scenic hikes to snowsports at Crystal Mountain Resort.

Time Your Trip: Chinook Pass and the White River Entrance to the park close seasonally due to heavy snowfall. Chinook Pass usually closes in late fall and reopens in late spring, depending on road conditions. The White River entrance, which provides access to Sunrise, follows a similar schedule. During that time, winter recreation is still possible outside the closure area at Crystal Mountain Resort.

Enumclaw
On the western end of the byway, Enumclaw offers a friendly small-town vibe. Visitors can explore a walkable downtown with local shops, restaurants, and seasonal events, along with nearby trails at Pinnacle Peak Park.

Greenwater
A tiny community just before Chinook Pass, Greenwater is a popular stop for supplies, coffee, and outdoor gear before continuing along the byway. Nearby, Federation Forest State Park‘s 574 acres of old-growth forest provide excellent hiking and birdwatching.

Mount Rainier National Park, White River Entrance
Just off the main byway, Mount Rainer’s White River Entrance provides access to the scenic Sunrise area on the northeast side of the park. At 6,400 feet, Sunrise is the highest point in the park reachable by vehicle and boasts hiking trails, a visitor center, and picnic areas. The road to Sunrise typically closes due to snow from late fall through spring. Nearby, Crystal Mountain Resort is a popular winter destination for skiing and snowboarding.
