The play, Hedda Gabler, set in 1890 Norway at George Tesman’s Middle Class Villa home in Christiana, Norway, the morning after he and his wife, Hedda, have arrived from their honeymoon, where he spent most of his time doing research. Hedda, an aristocrat, is bored on arrival, immediately distaining her assigned role as homemaker, as it compares to her previous life. She drives the action of the play on a course of the destruction of those she loves and herself. A play that proves timeless in Its study of repression, human nature, gender inequality, and artistic stagnation.
