Join us for Free Jazz Sunday in the Sunset Lounge on May 4 with The Red Rose Jazz Project, an ensemble celebrating over 100 years of music by women composers and lyricists. The band features Peninsula musicians Jean Lenke, vocals, Linda Dowdell, piano, and Rachael Contorer, bass, as well as Seattle saxophonist Tobi Stone and Bellingham drummer Melanie Sehman. Featured songwriters include Dorothy Fields, Abbey Lincoln, Joni Mitchell, Carla Bley, Adele, alongside Red Rose originals.

Jean Lenke (vocals) paints music in full color, with broad strokes and a free hand. Her approach to music is free-spirited, crossing boundaries and mixing genres. Jean’s fresh take on classic jazz is influenced by an eclectic mix of mid-century folk, jazz-rock fusion, and a heartfelt passion for life.

Linda Dowdell (pianist/arranger) toured the world from 1988–98 as musical director of Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project and the Mark Morris Dance Group. In 2021, NorthWest Women’s Chorale premiered her “she shantey” Sail Like A Girl here in Port Angeles, where she appears regularly with the Port Angeles Symphony.
